Thomas suggests fishing each of these patterns on just a single fly rig to help improve presentation. Long, light leaders in a 5X-7X diameter will improve the productiveness of these flies but in order to fish that light, you must have a soft 2-4 weight fly rod. If you're fishing a 5 weight or heavier, don't fish lighter than 5X tippet as you will break off too many flies.
