Australia is home to some remarkable and unique fisheries. As part of our angling culture, we have two iconic species: in the north of the country, the barramundi rules, while in the south the Murray cod ignites much passion.

A group of Australian fluff chuckers brought together by their affiliation with Vision Fly Fishing decided that their favourite fisheries deserved a fly rod
to match.

Delivering large and air resistant flies deep into structure is typically what is required to get a strike from a barramundi or a Murray cod, and this is where the Vision Down Under rod really excels.

Prototypes of the rod were tested, talked about at length and fished in a wide range of Australian fishing situations, in both fresh and salt water. Input from the likes of gun angler and salt-water aficionado Gavin Davis, angling identity and outback traveller Ken Smith, and from a bloke who spends a lot of time guiding and fishing for Murray cod (that would be me), came together with the wider Australian Vision team and created a splendid rod, not only for barra and cod but for a lot of other heavy fly
situations.

The Down Under is available in an 8’4″ 9-weight — a shorter length to suit those who like to fish in tight quarters — and a 9′ 10-weight for when you have the space to lay out a longer cast or are fishing from a boat.
The blank of the Down Under rod provides a powerful medium fast action and is built with a blend of low modulus 24 ton and high modulus 38 ton graphite, keeping the weight down but staying strong with the power to turn a large fish away from heavy cover.

The green and gold colour scheme reflects the rod’s Aussie pedigree. Both models have full wells cork handles with comfortable cork/EVA fighting butt, complete with a Mimosa star from the Southern Cross.
